Tapas at Ahuzat Smilansky

When I first heard there was a tapas restaurant in Be’er Sheva I couldn’t believe my ears. Sure enough, Chef-Owner Yariv Eitani worked in kitchens in Tel Aviv and Provence before deciding to open up a place in his home town. Although the restaurant was originally French that didn’t go over as well as he’d hoped and he switched to tapas; it’s still listed in many guides and websites as being French. Bar Basaba

Expats in Be’er Sheva (particularly those of us from New York) need only to hear two words to convince them to flock to Bar Basaba: Brooklyn Lager. This little taste of home (that tastes close enough to how it tastes at home) is available in bottles for 27 worthwhile shekels a pop (for those of you keeping tabs stateside that’s a whopping $7.50 and a little lesson in imports, supply, and demand).
